Draft Plan for 2nd Street Corridor Relies on Public Input
SPLOST stands for Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.
The voters of Macon agreed to put their pennies forward to work on five key areas-Public Safety, Infrastructure, Economic Development, Recreation and Cultural Arts and Debt . Within each of these categories are projects. Below you see the different a map of where some of our project are located and a listing of their allocations.

SPLOST stands for Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. In November 2011, voters in Macon-Bibb County voted to raise their local sales tax by 1%. Over the next 6 years the money generated by the 1% increase will go directly to the city of Macon to fund special projects. The 2011 SPLOST projects bring together key Bibb County and City of Macon initiatives that will be funded any time an item is purchased in Macon-Bibb County by residents and those visiting the county alike. Since Macon serves as a regional shopping center, non-residents will pay a sizable portion of the total SPLOST. Recent Economic Studies (Mercer University, Macon State University and Georgia Tech) indicate that in Macon/Bibb County, nonresidents will pay more than half of the SPLOST.

This money will go towards funding many projects the city and county could not otherwise afford to do within its annual budget. Projects like maintaining and updating parks, repairing roads, and downtown revitalization are all items funded by this SPLOST.
