Department of Inspection & Fees



Tom Buttram, Director		 The Department of Inspection & Fees is responsible for the enforcement of the Georgia State Construction Codes, Georgia Accessibility and Fire Laws relative to the construction and renovations to both new and existing buildings within the City of Macon and Bibb County. These codes and standards are necessary to insure the safety and health of the occupants of a building.

The Main Duties of the Department of Inspection & Fees are:
  • Issues and maintains construction permits

  • Reviews plans, specifications and construction documents for code compliance

  • Performs field investigations and inspections for code compliance

  • Issues certificate of occupancies

Owners and contractors are responsible for obtaining appropriate permits from the Department of Inspection & Fees prior to starting construction or renovations on a building.
